Background:This role is in the Respiratory Clinical Trials at the Queen Anne St.Medical Centre, in Central London. The Unit has established links tothe Clinical Studies Unit at The Brompton Hospital.The Unit is dedicated to formally evaluate the mechanisms of airwaysdisease and the properties and clinical potential of new therapeuticagents in allergy, asthma and COPD.Role Title:Laboratory TechnicianDepartment:Respiratory Clinical TrialsSpecialities:Asthma, Allergy & Lung Biology,Urology, Gastro-EnterologyResponsible to: Senior Scientific Officer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To assist and perform with general laboratory duties to contribute toproviding an effective and efficient laboratory service
a) To ensure an efficient laboratory sample logging system is implemented within theclinical trials unitb) To ensure that samples are processed, stored and destroyed appropriatelyaccording to the study protocol, GCP and GLP practices.c) To ensure processes and procedures performed are documented fully and recordsare maintained to a high standard.d) To ensure that laboratory resources are sourced cost effectivelye) To maintain and promote high standards of infection control practice
2. To assist with the development and implementation of effectivearchiving systems within the Laboratory
a) To ensure records are maintained and managed to a high standard that adhere toGCP requirementsb) To assist with the development and management of archive databases andtransportation recordsc) To report system failures to senior members of the clinical research team andcontribute to problem solving solutions
3. To assist with general administrative duties within the Laboratory
a) To assist with general administrative duties within the laboratoryb) To assist with data QC procedures and data filing within the laboratoryc) To assist with stock taking and ordering of goods/services as and when required.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teamwork & Innovation
a) To exhibit a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills within themultidisciplinary teamb) To actively contribute to the development of the team by sharing ideas andinitiativesd) To report conflicts and problems to the department manager as they may arise
2. Management of Information
a) To ensure that participant’s confidentiality is observed at all times.
 
b) To ensure that records are maintained in accordance with data protection act1998, the data protection directive 95/46/EEC and ICH-GCP guidelines.

3. Marketing & I.T.
a)
To exhibit excellent I.T skills with a good knowledge of word, excel andPowerPoint.
 
b) To participate in the positive marketing of the clinical trials unitc) To resource and implement a range of marketing strategies to captureparticipant involvement.
4. Personal Development and Training
a) To participate in house education programmes as appropriateb) To successfully complete induction and orientation programmec) Comply with units standard operating procedures and policiesd) To attend basic life support training on an annual basise) To demonstrate continuing professional development which reflects theneeds of the post holder and the unit
