The State of the World’s Children Special Edition: Celebrating 20 Years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child 
takes place earlier thanin recent years, it has not been possible to incorporate the 2009statistical tables into the print version of the main report.The statistical tables presented in this volume assist in meetingthe demand for timely, reliable, comparable and comprehensivedata on the state of the world’s children. They also supportUNICEF’s focus on progress and results on internationallyagreed development goals and compacts on child rights anddevelopment. UNICEF is the lead agency responsible for globalmonitoring of the Millennium Declaration child-related goals aswell as the Millennium Development Goals and Indicators; theorganization is also a key partner in the United Nations’ workon monitoring these targets and indicators.All of the numbers presented in this reference guide willbe available online, in English, on 20 November 2009 at<www.unicef.org/publications> and in print and online in otherlanguages shortly thereafter. Please refer to this website forthe latest versions of the statistical tables and for any updatesor corrigenda subsequent to printing.
