Charterschoolruling stilluncertain

The Cherry Hill, Voorhees,Lawnside and SomerdaleSchool Districts continue towait for a ruling from the stateDepartment of Education onwhether it will allow RegisAcademy Charter School toopen its doors this fall.In March, the Cherry HillSchool District requested a re-consideration to grant thecharter to Regis, which wouldopen on the former HolyRosary site at 99 Burnt MillRoad, near the CherryHill/Voorhees border.The Solid Rock WorshipCenter currently rents the landfrom the diocese, with the in-tent to open the charter schoolon the site.Last week, Pastor AmirKhan, who leads Solid Rockand the charter school, said hewas ready to make settlementwith the diocese on the proper-ty. He said one company hasbegun working on appraisingthe buildings.The appeal was pending inthe Superior Court of New Jer-sey–appellate division, untilChris Cerf, acting commission-er of Education, asked to havecontrol of the decision given tohim, which was granted by thecourt, said Susan Bastnagel,the Cherry Hill School District

Lost dog treks to nearby town

It’s not exactly “The IncredibleJourney,” but if Mitzy the beaglepointer mix could talk, she wouldhave some amazing tales to tell.The two-and-a-half year oldrescue dog disappeared in Eve-sham Township on Saturday, May19, after running away from herowner and into the woods behindGeorgia O’Keefe Way.After more than two weeks onthe lam, the frightened dog wasfound on Wednesday, June 6, onWilliam Feather Drive inVoorhees Township.Mitzy was hanging out at afriend’s house, one that she hadonly been to on a handful of occa-sions.No, seriously.Her owner, Dina Greenblatt,said she believes that Mitzycaught the scent of her dog friendMolly – a golden labradoodle – while she was running throughthe woods behind SturbridgeLakes in Voorhees Township.Mitzy and Molly are both fans of the dog park in John ConnollyPark in Voorhees Township andplay there frequently while theirowners chat.“The only other people outsideof the four members of our fami-ly that she trusts are her dogfriend Molly and her mommyMaryanne,” Greenblatt said. “Itwas unbelievable. She had onlybeen to Molly’s house twice be-fore during our two-year friend-ship.”The rescue dog is extremelynervous and skittish, Greenblattexplained, and was most likelyabused before the VoorheesTownship family adopted her.The family had been visiting rela-tives in Evesham Township whenMitzy disappeared on May 19.After spending hours in thewoods looking for Mitzy – andhaving to be rescued herself bythe Evesham Township Policeafter she got lost – Greenblatt re-turned home and immediatelywent online to see what could bedone.Greenblatt started a Facebookpage and posted a listing onCraigslist urging all residents inthe area to call if they saw the dogrunning through their neighbor-hood. They posted her informa-tion on a pet tracking websitecalled FindToto.com as well,which sent out a phone messageblast about Mitzy to registered
