MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: RE: Interested Parties Jim Williams, Public Policy Polling June 26, 2012

Survey Findings1 in Ohios 15th Congressional District

A new Public Policy Polling survey of likely voters in Ohios 15th Congressional District shows that Republican incumbent Steve Stivers is weak and very vulnerable in his 2012 bid for re-election. Stivers re-elect numbers are among the lowest we have seen this cycle, and in both his re-elect number and in a head-to-head contest, he falls significantly below the 50 percent threshold. If Pat Lang has the resources to run a competitive campaign he could be positioned to defeat Steve Stivers in November.

Head-to-Head
Democrat Pat Lang Republican Steve Stivers Undecided Voters 33% 43% 24%

Stivers anonymity is a big reason why the incumbent congressman receives only 43% in a head-to-head matchup with Democratic challenger Pat Lang, who receives 33% support in the matchup. 24% of voters are undecided sure of who they would support in a Stivers-Lang contest, making this race a tossup.

Stivers Re-Elect #
Steve Stivers Someone New Not Sure 38% 41% 22%

In the re-elect question: If the election for U.S. Congress were held today, would you vote for the incumbent, Republican Steve Stivers, or do you think it is time for someone new? 41% of voters say they want someone new to replace Stivers.

The poll also showed only 31% of OH-15 voters approve of the job Steve Stivers is doing as congressman in his first term and he is mostly unknown in his own congressional district. Incumbent Republican Steve Stivers is vulnerable and if Democrat Pat Lang can put together the financial resources he needs he can make this a competitive race.
