Chattanooga's former schools director will take the same job in Nashville next week for a $250,000 annual salary — and a year's severance pay if he's booted in favor of a state-installed replacement.
The Metro Nashville school board Tuesday unanimously approved a contract to hire Jesse Register under a three-year agreement that makes him one of the highest paid directors in the state, just behind Memphis chief Kriner Cash, who earns $258,000 plus $10,000 in deferred benefits.
