Figure 1.1: Role of the Fabricator
Fabricators are mainly responsible for fabricating and installing specified cladding systems. It is their ability to manage the initial project cash flows and innovative techniques that they have acquired over the yearsthat gives them the competitive edge. They obtain their profit margins by handling large numbers of jobs with a relatively higher turnover.Tomaintain healthy business they need to keep a good rapport with following agencies,
System designers by maintaining links:Fabricators are normally tied or franchised wholly to one system designer. But their main concern is toacquire contracts for which they need to cover a wide range of work possible.
Architects, Specifiers and a main Contractor by having good contacts:Fabricators need to keep good rapport with the main contractor as they have influence on tendering andspecification phases, as well as they are responsible for the payments. They often promote systems withtheir installation skills for the purpose of marketing.Limitations:
Fabricators need to be dependent on system designers and suppliers for deliverables.
Contracts are awarded based on financial and other important resources of the fabricating company.Being a skilled fabricator alone will not help to acquire large contracts.
Fabricators are the one who need to take the full responsibility as they are the in the relatively exposedsituation. They have to find out site solutions for local problems as architects or system designers do notclaim responsibility for the same.
