STOP #9 BUKIT ABU, DABONG Sedimentary rocks here were representing by shale, mudstone, siltstone and sandstone.

The bedding between these sedimentary rocks shows uniform tilting and dipping. Since this outcrop is not so far from Gua Ikan, Dabong we believe that sediment here is also from marine depositional environment.

STOP #10 SG SAM, MANEK URAI Type of rock here is dark-coloured andesite. Andesite is intermediate volcanic rock with major mineral composition is mafic which is pyroxene. While felsic mineral called pyrolusite become the minor mineral. Mafic: felsic ratio is 2:3. Texture for andesite could vary from aphanitic to porphyry texture. However, most of andesite here has fine grained which makes them be considered as aphanitic rock. Because of aerobic condition that present here, oxidation process and weathering can takes place. Because of oxidation, iron oxide deposited and further weathering turn andesite into red.

STOP #11 KUALA BETIS, GUA MUSANG Another example of interbedded sedimentary rock showed here. Outcrop here showed black shale interbedded with sandstone. Black shale here is thicker than sandstone. The shale looks a bit tilted for its bedding. Something that is more interesting that was found here is dissemination of pyrite nodule, FeS . Pyrite nodule is considered cubic in crystal system. The colour of pyrite could be same as gold. Being known as fools gold, pyrite can be distinguished with gold by its hardness. Pyrite could have harness of 6 to 6.5 while gold is much softer with 3 to 3.5 for its hardness. There is also fossil remnant called crionoid. The environment deposition is deep marine with anaerobic condition due to pyrite.

STOP #12 POS BLAU, GUA MUSANG Followed the stop before this place, black shale is also present here. However, instead of sandstone, light grey limestone was found inter-bedded with the black shale. Distinctive feature that present here is crisscrossing of calcite. The crisscrossing actually results from mode 1 fracture as the fracture is filled by molten calcite and later be recrystallized. Same as in Kuala Betis, we predict that outcrop here is formed by marine deposition.
