Dear colleagues, News Limited recently announced our overall plan to transform News which includes: putting customers at the centre of everything we do; investing and innovating; and changing the way we organise the company. Central to this is making sure that we unlock the power of the network and provide great local stories and great national stories to our customers across all the formats and devices they use every day. As part of this overall plan to grow the business we will improve efficiency by reducing duplication. We will also harness the full scale of our network - and the talent of the people who work across our company - to support our great local brands and continue to deliver unique and distinctive content to consumers. Gold Coast Publications is committed to providing its readers with relevant, timely and quality content via their channel of choice, and its reporters are committed to breaking news. At the same time, we understand both the opportunities and challenges facing the organisation and the industry. In line with our vision our local commitment Gold Coast Publications will be merging the community newspaper with daily product resources to reduce duplication and share resources across GCP mastheads. Today we advised employees that we will be merging the community newspaper with paid daily product resources. This change will be effective as of 18 July 2012. Regrettably, this means a number of roles at GCP will be made redundant. Redundancies will be made in general reporting, backbench and administration areas. This is not a reflection on the dedication and quality of our team, rather this decision is being made to sure up the long term sustainability of our business We have already commenced consulting with as many employees as possible to discuss the reason for this change and the impact. We will continue to consult with affected employees to ensure there is ample opportunity to discuss all relevant issues in a timely manner. Please be assured that we will be following a fair and equitable process regarding selection for redundancy and will work with employees preferences where possible.
