Honorable Ben GilmanThe Gilman Group1625 K Street, Suite 1070Washington, DC 20006Dear Ben:As you know, I have been pursuing the illegal activities of non-profit charitable groupsand their violation of the letter and the spirit of the law.I have been especially following the questionable activities of Dr. Kern Wildenthal of Dallas, Texas, who it is believed was involved in taking financial advantage of manywealthy women, one of whom is a widow with whom I am familiar. She made a Will in November 1998 in Dallas under duress, having written a letter substantially in favor of
the College of William & Mary a few weeks earlier, which gave him total control over her Estate. She later made a number of codicils at a time when her physicians in France, where she had lived since 1954, had determined that she was very frail and had serioushealth issues. He apparently manipulated her to try and fix a number of legal issues thathad arisen under the first Will, but always making sure that he called the shots on her Estate, although by his actions he has caused her Estate to suffer substantial avoidable taxcharges in France. He apparently manipulated her will, making himself the soleindividual who could decide the distribution of the assets in her estate which involvedapproximately 100 million dollars and which ended up in his charity. The abhorrent behavior of this individual who represents a number of charitableinstitutions needs to be reviewed. I would be prepared to testify before an appropriatecongressional committee with regard to those actions. An investigating journalist, who was recently terminated by CBS in Dallas following hisTV investigative reports about these improprieties and related issues involving Dr.Wildenthal, has gathered a great deal of information on his questionable conduct withregard to his fundraising work for charitable institutions. There are also a number of issues involving Medicare and Medicaid fraud by this director of non-profit organizations.
