SUMMARY OF THE EVALUATION REPORT
INSTITUTION: City College of San FranciscoDATE OF VISIT: March 11 – 15, 2012TEAM CHAIR: Sandra V. Serrano, J.D.Chancellor, Kern Community College DistrictA 17-member team visited City College of San Francisco from March 11 through 15,2012, for the purpose of evaluating the institution’s request for reaffirmation of accreditation. Through the review of documented evidence and through many interviews,two open forums, and attending standing meetings, the team conducted its evaluation anddetermined how well the institution was meeting the standards of accreditation andachieving its stated purposes, as outlined in the Accrediting Commission’s 21 eligibilityrequirements and four standards of accreditation.The college’s self evaluation was well prepared and thorough. The college certified itsself evaluation report in December 2011, following its comprehensive review by thecollege accreditation steering committee. City College of San Francisco also provided tothe visiting team a 2012 Self Study Update that described events or changes that hadoccurred between November 1, 2011 and January 31, 2012. Additionally, the collegewas responsive in meeting the requests of team members for documentation not readilyavailable, and in some cases, creating the documentation from scratch to fulfill specificrequests of the team.The team made extensive efforts to prepare for the visit. The team chair attended a teamchair orientation on December 2, 2012, and most team members attended a teamorientation provided by the Commission on February 7, 2012. Several members wereadded to the visiting team following the Commission Team Training and were trained inother venues. The team chair and team assistant conducted an advance visit to CityCollege of San Francisco on January 16-17, 2012. Prior to the team visit, team memberscarefully read the college’s self evaluation and related documents, including therecommendations of the previous accreditation evaluation team that visited the college in2006. The team also completed preliminary assignments designed to provide initialimpressions of the institution’s self assessment.Because of the size and complexity of City College of San Francisco, the visiting teamconducted its review by adding one day to the visit. The team arrived on Sunday, March11, for its team orientation and first meeting. The team spent Monday, March 12, in athorough review of evidence, tours of many of the nine primary campuses, and initialmeetings with campus leaders. Due to the extensive number of primary campuses, visitsalso took place on Tuesday, March 13. This additional time and effort ensured that thework for the remainder of the visit was able to be accomplished in an efficient andproductive manner over the subsequent days.
