Whats required to become an AYSO Referee?

If youre willing to contribute your time and effort to ensuring that kids have a fun experience in a fair and safe program, then you possess the necessary prerequisites to become an AYSO Ref. Regardless of whether or not you know a lot about soccer, AYSO will provide the training and tools to help you become a Ref. Weve had plenty of moms and dads that started out knowing little about soccer that have gone on to become terrific Referees! Referees for: Kindergarten teams are required to have taken the U8 Official or BASIC Referee course; 1st and 2nd grade teams are required to have taken the U8 Official or BASIC Referee course; 3rd and 4th grade teams are required to have taken the BASIC Referee course; Intermediate Referee is recommended 5th and 6th grade teams, Intermediate course is required; 7th and 8th grade teams, Intermediate is required, the Advanced Referee (U-14) course is recommended. If you take Safe Haven, or BASIC Ref on-line, contact me to complete training: RefAdministrator@glenviewayso.org Other information: Please be aware that it is mandatory that all Referees take the Safe Haven course and Ref training prior to taking the field and to have a current volunteer form on file. If you have already taken Safe Haven or a specific Ref training course once, it is not required that you take it again. You can take any course again for a refresher. Also, depending upon what division your children are in, you may have noticed that there arent enough referees. If you could drum up any interest with your parents to become referees, that would be appreciated. Having trained and certified referees is an important

side of the AYSO triangle: coaches, referees, parents each being one side of the triangle, with the kids in the middle.
