Order of Operations
Overview and Purpose:
The purpose of this lesson is to teach students how to solve expressions using order of operations. They will need to utilize their knowledge of basic arithmetic to solve theexpressions. Students will use the Ipads to answer questions that the teacher has created. They will also work in partner to create problems and they will play a trivia game with thequestions that the class has created.

MA 8.1.3.a Compute accurately with rational numbersMA 8.1.3.d Select, apply, and explain the method of computation when problem solving usingrational numbers
The student will be able to:●use add, subtract, multiply, and divide to simplify expressions●use order of operations to simplify expressions●simplify exponents
●teacher Ipad with nearpod teacher ●Ipad cart with each ipad having nearpod student●paper/pencil●pre-algebra books
This is set over two 50-minute class periods
Bell Ringer:Review add, subtract, multiply, divide integers. This will be done with the nearpod app. Therewill be ten questions ready. When the students enter the room, they will each have an Ipad. The student will sign in to nearpod and put in the code. This is where they will find thequestions. The students are to answer the questions within two minutes of the bell ringing. Instruction:1) Teacher will evaluate the questions immediately. If there are any items that were missed, they will be reviewed before beginning.2) The definition of order of operations will be discussed with the presentation on the nearpodapp.3) Show a video that was embedded into the presentation fromhttp ://www .phschool.com
3) Show 3-4 questions step-by-step with slides on nearpod that they will watch at their desks.4) A check-for-understanding question will be given with the app.
