ESSAY WRITING CONTEST The judging criteria are divided into three portions namely Form, Content and

Impression. FORM (Total 30 marks) This is the structural part of the essay it is the backbone of the essay. This portion includes the following. 1. GRAMMAR (10) (spelling, punctuation, etc.) Participation are urged to take care of the basics of the English grammar. 2. ORGANIZATION (10) Organization of an essay means the pattern of ideas expressed by the contestants, most usually top to bottom in an essay of limited length. A disorganized essay will be discouraged. 3. CRAFTSMANSHIP (10) (use of proper word, sentence structure paragraphing, etc) This portion includes the use of creative and innovative words and phrases. This section emphasis on the clarity and implement ability of the ideas presented. CONTENT (Total 50 marks) This is the most essential part of the essay. It must include the main and supporting ideas of the writer on the theme. This portion will reflect the level of substance in the essay. This essay writer must have demonstrated preparation toward the goal stated. 1. MAIN IDEA(S) (25) It is vital that the theme of the contest (i.e. how to attract sufficient sustainable resources for SSOs) is clearly addressed. There could be a central argument which should be effectively supported with substantiates. 2. SUPPORTING IDEAS (25) The main ideas presented must be thoroughly discussed. The contestant can cite examples, observations, studies, experience, and activities in support of the main ideas of the essay. IMPRESSION (Total 20 marks) This part is for the judges reaction. This portion gives opinions. 1. ANALYSIS (10) The judges must have the impression that the essay highlights the essence of the theme. 2. STYLE / CREATIVITY (10)
