Summary

Sir John Beddington welcomed those members for whom this was their first
meeting and informed the Board that he had accompanied the Prime Minister
on a visit to Japan and chaired a “nuclear summit” during that visit.

An official from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills introduced
the planned work to develop an Industrial Vision Statement with the UK-based
nuclear industry. The Carbon Trust gave a presentation on the ongoing Nuclear
Technology and Innovation Needs Assessment (TINA).

The Board decided to establish a number of sub-groups. The proposed

convenors of each sub-group provided an outline of planned work to the Board.

An official from the Government Office for Science provided an update on the
review of the nuclear R&D landscape.

The Chairman summarised the second meeting of the Nuclear Research and
Development Advisory Board and set out the likely agenda for the third meeting
to be held on 31 May 2012.
