Core Components of Volunteer Recruitment
After a member completes and submits a volunteer pledge card, there are four(4) steps that must be taken to ensure that members will volunteer.
Three Days after receiving pledge card
Send a thank youemail.
It is important to reaffirm and recognize a volunteer
s commitment. Therefore make sure you thank the volunteer within three (3) days of her/hiscommitment. This will also ensure that they schedule the event in their calendar.
A week prior to the volunteer date and activity
Send areminder email and make a phone call
. This email is a helpful reminder andprovides you an opportunity to brief the volunteer on the activity that she/he willbe performing. Try to provide as much information as possible (activity, start andend times, whether food will be provided, etc.) so that they can make thenecessary arrangements for that day (i.e. If it is a 3 hour precinct walk, you wantto remind them to bring good walking shoes and appropriate clothing).
The Day before the event/activity
Make a reminder phonecall the day before the event/activity
. You should provide a friendly phone callreminder the day before the event, preferably in the afternoon. It is important tosound excited about the event, while simultaneously obtain
ing the volunteer’s
final commitment to attend. Ensure that you have answered any questions ordoubts that they may have, as it shows a great detail of preparedness and willinstill confidence in the volunteers.
After the event
Provide a thank you email to the volunteer
. Writinga short thank you email to the volunteers shows that we appreciate theirdedication and increases our ability to retain these members for future volunteerevents and activities.
