 The Committee recommends a total of $59,839,000,000 in discre-tionary budget authority for the departments and agencies fundedin this bill. The recommendation is $136,893,000 above the requestand $2,631,000,000 above the amount enacted for the current fiscalyear. The Committee also recommends $354,000,000 for mandatoryprograms funded within this bill.The following table provides a comparison of the new budget au-thority recommended in the accompanying bill with the amountsappropriated for fiscal year 2006, and the budget request for fiscalyear 2007.

$6.0 billion for the Federal Bureau of Investigation;
$1.8 billion for the Drug Enforcement Administration; and
$2.6 billion to assist State and local law enforcement to fightcrime, which is $1.1 billion above the request including: the Ed-ward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants program ($368million), the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program ($405 mil-lion), juvenile justice and accountability programs ($281 million),law enforcement technologies and interoperable communications($100 million), the DNA backlog elimination program ($176 mil-lion), meth enforcement ($99 million), and violence against womenprevention and prosecution programs ($390 million).
