A Note From the AuthorsOne of our goals with our graphic novel
Witch Hunts: A Graphic History of the Burning Times
was to present as full a picture as possible – in roughly 200 pages of illustrated text, that is – of theentire, ghastly pageant of witch persecutions. We knew we would mainly focus on the more (in)famouscases from continental Europe, the British Isles, and America, but we would also provide a finalchapter that would wrap up the history and show how witch persecutions have continued up until present times in areas around the globe. At one point, we envisioned an appendix which would provide a brief overview of how witcheshave permeated popular culture, and how much of our stereotyped image of witches – black-hatted,long-nosed, hag-like – derived from witch trials. We prepared 10 pages of photos and art to show our  publisher, McFarland and Co., Inc., what we wanted to do with this appendix. Our editors at McFarland were initially intrigued by the idea of the appendix, but finallydecided that the appendix simply didn't fit with either the rest of the book's tone or our page count. Weagreed with their decision to cut the appendix. However, we thought the proposed appendix might be of interest to readers of
Witch Hunts,
andso it is presented herein, just as we presented it to McFarland. We hope you enjoy this little broom ridethrough literature, film, television, and counter cultures.Rocky Wood, Lisa Morton, and Greg ChapmanJuly, 2012For more information please visitwitchhuntsbook.comOrder your copy of
