Awards wereannounced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The News & DocumentaryEmmy
®
Awards will be presented on Monday, October 1 at a ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz atLincoln Center, located in the Time Warner Center in New York City. The event will be attended by more than 1,000television and news media industry executives, news and documentary producers and journalists. Emmy
®
Awards willbe presented in 42 categories, including Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, Outstanding Interview, and BestDocumentary, among others.
 
"The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is delighted to honor the outstanding work being done by journalists and documentarians throughout the television industry,” said Malachy Wienges, Chairman, NATAS. "Inaddition, we are pleased to be honoring Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas, the co-anchors of Univision’s nightlynewscast, with our prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. We are happy to highlight their work which representsthe very best in news reporting.”Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas are longtime co-anchors of Univision’s evening newscast “Noticiero Univision”and pioneers of Spanish-language broadcasting in the U.S. Ramos has been called “the Walter Cronkite of Hispanicnews,” and the

has called Salinas “the voice of Hispanic America.” As co–anchors of “NoticieroUnivision” they reach 96 percent of Hispanic Americans living in the United States averaging nearly two millionviewers every night. Ramos and Salinas have produced distinguished coverage of major news events in the last quartercentury, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to 9/11 to the Iraq War and Hurricane Katrina.
