WHAT IS INSIdE THIS ISSUE

The Ambassador briefly touched on the upcoming media launch of the 150-Year Celebration and announced his support for the Department of Tourisms new slogan, It is More Fun in the Philippines . ACTIVITIES MARkING 150 YEARS OF SWISS-PH RELATIONS LAUNCHEd

The Embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines recently opened its doors to the media to officially launch activities marking 150 years of Swiss-Philippine relations. The March 28 gathering falls exactly on the 150th year since Switzerland decided to open its first representation in all of Asia in the Philippines. Present during the launch were His Excellency Ivo Sieber, Swiss Ambassador to the Philippines; Elizabeth Buensuceso, Assistant Secretary for European Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Nick Fischer, President of Swiss Society Philippines; and Rosario CajucomBradbury, Chairperson of the PhilippinesSwiss Business Council along with members of the press. The speakers treated the attendees to a multi-faceted view of Philippine-Swiss relations, touching on economic, political, historical and social perspectives. H.E. Sieber opened the program with an introduction on the commemoration and activities slated throughout 2012. Meanwhile, Ms. Buensuceso touched on the development and scope of the bilateral relations between the Philippines Switzerland. Mr. Fischer, on the other hand, took the audience back in time as he shared the history and contribution of the Swiss colony in the Philippines. Closing the lineup was Ms. Cajucom-Bradbury with a talk on business and investment relations between the two nations. With some of the Swiss companies having established their presence in the Philippines more than a century ago, Switzerland remains one of the countrys foremost investors. Employing thousands of Filipino staff, Swiss firms such as Nestl, Holcim, or SGS to name but a few have convincingly shown their commitment to the development of the Philippine economy. This years celebrations will cover a series of commemorative activities, ranging from cultural events to exhibitions, from special festivities to the dedication of a Swiss Rock Ball Fountain as a remembrance of this special occasion. In highlighting and building on the achievements of the one-and-a-half centuries of Swiss-Philippine official relations, these events will showcase the contribution and support that Switzerland and its people have brought to the Philippines. The activities arranged by the Swiss Embassy in Manila are undertaken in cooperation with the Swiss residents and the Swiss business community in the Philippines and supported by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.

VISION FOR zUELLIG BUILdING GOES BEYONd 33 STORIES

Three years after groundbreaking, the 33-story Zuellig Building, a new landmark at the corner of Makati Avenue and Paseo de Roxas in the Makati CBD, is soon to be completed. The vision for the building, pre-certified by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) at the Gold level of its LEED program for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design exceeds the , office towers height of 155 meters. Speaking during the first General Membership Meeting of the PhilippineSwiss Business Council (PSBC) for 2012, Daniel Zuellig, Director of F . E. Zuellig (M), Inc. and Bridgebury Realty Corporation, revealed that the project team is aiming for a LEED Platinum certification, the highest globally recognized standard for green buildings. Typically, the USGBC confers its certifications about one year after completion of projects enrolled in the LEED program. In June 2009, the USGBC awarded the Zuellig Building with pre-certification at Gold level under the LEED-CS (Core and Shell) program. As we have already reached a number of milestones well beyond the minimum requirements for a Gold certification, we are now aiming for Platinum. With extra effort, we stand a good chance, Zuellig said. In addition to the benefits of sustainable architecture and design, such as energy savings, reduced water consumption and a healthy workplace, Zuellig sees in the LEED certification a testimony to the world-class competencies of the Philippines. LEED certifications for high-rise office buildings are recognized in a global context as a world-class achievement. A Platinum certification would demonstrate to the world that Makati City and the Philippines can live up to the very highest international standards, he said. This is the ambition we have for this new building. Final completion of the project, including the landscaped area and the Food Plaza in the low-rise annex along Makati Avenue, is scheduled for October of this year. The office tower will be ready for a soft opening as early as July, and some of the first tenants have already started fit-out works. Conforming to the exacting standards of the LEED rating system, the building will provide measurable benefits in terms of energy savings, lower operating costs and superior indoor air quality. The buildings specifications also pave the way for tenants to obtain additional LEED certifications for their individual interior spaces. The Zuellig Group, which will itself occupy one and a half floors of the building, owns and manages a portfolio of industry-leading businesses across the Asia-Pacific region. The groups roots are in the Philippines and go back to the early 1900s when Frederick E. Zuellig came to Manila in search of a business career in trading. Building on its long and diversified business experience in Asia-Pacific, the Zuellig Groups principal activities are in healthcare products, agribusiness, agricultural equipment, industrial supplies and systems, insurance and property. In the Philippine healthcare sector, Zuellig is synonymous with distribution and manufacturing services, but also increasingly recognized for the programs of the Zuellig Family Foundation to improve public health systems and health conditions in disadvantaged rural communities.
