HOURS:
Scheduled on a rotating shift basis, to include weekends
FUNCTIONS:
Under the general supervision of the Air Conditioning MechanicSupervisor, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying avariety of heating, air conditioning and ventilating systems and components withinDCPL facilities; operates and properly maintains low pressure (oil-fired or gas- fired)steam or hot water heating plant, its controls and auxiliaries; makes periodictemperature checks of areas in the facility in order to maintain proper room temperature,calibrates thermostats as necessary and records temperature in log book; cleans boilersas scheduled and prepares heating plant for annual inspection; operates and maintainsair conditioning systems (chill water or direct expansion); tests for proper operation,makes necessary repairs; makes recommendations for equipment replacement, majorsystem modification, and notifies supervisor of unsafe conditions; frequentlycommunicates with branch librarians to assess needs and resolve problems;participates with other staff in removal of ice and snow from exterior grounds offacilities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess a valid 3
rd
Class Steam Engineer’sLicense and must have a minimum of one year of demonstrated skill in operatingindependently with a 3
rd
Class Operating Steam Engineer License. Applicants will beevaluated on their knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position asstated in the KSA’s below.In addition, the incumbent must possess a Driver’s License and have the ability toobtain a government permit and ability to obtain an annual certification to work aroundasbestos containing materials.
