Pink is so strong on the requirements of the new life in Christ, and rightfully so. But sometimes he is not equally careful to show that this is not legalism or moralism, something the sinner can attain to by his own boot straps; we must not send the convicted and contrite sinner back to himself to try harder but always make it clear that this is the obedience that springs from faith in Christ himself as our bread from heaven. The Christian life is an impossible life except for the man who is in Christ, and lives by Him and His Holy Spirit. It is all of grace because it is all of Christ alone.

The whole subject of God's vengeance on behalf of His own Holy Name as well as His people who suffer at the hands of their wicked enemies- this whole theme must be handled very carefully. The SBC using Lifeway curriculum just had a lesson on Psalm 9 and this very subject-but we who follow Christ must read the OT scriptures as he did: redemptively-John 3:17. We are called to love our enemies and to do good to those who persecute us. We are specifically told not to reveange ourselves or even to condemn but to leave that to Him. Who knows when God might convert the persecutor into a great warrior of the Gospel, as in the case of Saul of Tarsus.
