I came to some very similar conclusions by way of a similarly long relationship w/Heinlein's fiction.
Heinlein's obsession and adolescent awkwardness with the subject of sex needs to be placed in the context of his upbringing in the early 20th century bible belt, which did considerably greater damage to many of his peers.
The fascination with young girls is a trifle more problematic, although it is probably worthwhile to note that a common characteristic of pedophiles is a lack of sexual maturity that leaves them better equipped to relate to children than adults.
As I have myself grown older, I find myself taking rather greater exception to Heinlein's equally immature political sensibilities... although there's pretty much something to offend everyone in Farnham's Freehold.
In any event, thanks for an interesting read.
