Joelle Fiss
was the chairwoman of the European Union of Jewish Studentsfrom 1999-2001. During her mandate she lead a delegation of European Stu-dents to the Conference against Racism in Durban. After completing hermandate at EUJS, Joëlle started her carrier in the European Union as pressofficer of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs committee. Today,Joëlle is a policy advisor for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Eu-rope, a centre-right political party and the third-largest political force in theEuropean Parliament.
The European Union of Jewish Students
(EUJS) is the umbrella organiza-tion for thirty-four national Jewish student unions in Europe and the For-mer Soviet Union, representing over 200,000 Jewish students. Cognizant of the religious, linguistic and cultural diversity that make up the EuropeanJewish community, EUJS is a constituent member of the European YouthForum, the leading platform for more than 90 national youth councils andinternational NGOs, and is the only Jewish organization represented at thatlevel. It is supported by the Council of Europe, the European Commission,all recognized Jewish organizations, and is a member of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS). EUJS is one of the largest international studentorganizations worldwide and the first Jewish Youth NGO to obtain Consul-tative Status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.Its annual programming includes the renowned Summer University, inter-national, inter-religious, inter-generational seminars, study sessions at theEuropean Youth Centre, and cutting edge work that puts it at the forefrontof the European context.
