MIZORAM DATA HIGHLIGHTS : THE SCHEDULED TRIBES Census of India 2001 The population of Mizoram in 2001 Census has been 888,573. Of them, 839,310 are Scheduled Tribes (STs) constituting 94.5 per cent of the total population of the state. The state has registered decadal growth of 28.4 per cent of ST population during 1991-2001. Thus, a predominant tribal state, Mizoram has fourteen communities notified as STs. New Delhi, November 30, 2007: According to source, Secretary of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) PB Lashkar today made an official announcement saying that the AHSEC has approved the inclusion of Hmar MIL as an alternative subject for Class XII. It should be noted that Hmar language was already recommended to be included in the AHSEC curriculum on September, 2007 The Hmar MIL will now be part of the AHSEC’s Class XI and Class XII curriculum starting next year.
