Hij vermengt elementen uit de joods-christelijke traditie met de laat antieke beschaving van Griekenland. Hij is een mystiek denker en een bevlogen commentator van de hoofdstromingen van de tijd. Nu is Dionysius de Are&#243;pagiet de schuilnaam van een schrijver, betrokken bij Are&#243;pagus in Monnickendam, en commentator van de wereld van kerk, cultuur en samenleving.
