Technology 103March 2009How to Take a Podcast and Index it on iTunes There are three basics steps you’ll need to take. First,you’ll need tocreate the podcast. Then you’ll need to go to some hosting site andupload the podcast there for the purpose of getting an RSS feedassigned to it. Once you have the feed, you can go to the iTunes storeand submit the podcast so that others can find it there and listen toyour creation! Follow the steps below.
1.Create a podcast.
I’ve already created a podcast using Garage Band(Mac iLifesoftware), but you may choose to useaudacity, or even the
Podomaticsite itself to create your podcast. The podcast is in themp3 mp4 format.
2.Get an RSS feed for the podcast.
I use thePodomaticsite to upload my already created podcast.If you like, you can create the podcast right here as well. Myobjective for visiting this site is to get an RSS feed for mypodcast. I’ll need that to get the podcast onto iTunes whereothers can find and listen to it. It could also be put onto awebsite for others to hear.a.At podomatic you will need to register for a free account.b.Remember to use some method to record that newusername and password!i.Mac users can use the keychain utility that comes onthe Macii.Pc users might try the freePassword Manger XPiii.Upload the podcast to the podomatic site.3.Now we go to the iTunes site (store) and select the podcastcategory. At the bottom left you will see some options in a boxfrom which you will choose the submit the podcast option. Thatwill open a window where you will be asked to submit the rsscode you received at thePodomatic site – on the google tab. You’ll be asked for your iTune store password and then you’ll betold if the rss link was accepted by iTunes. If so, it will take upto three days before it actually shows up in the index of
