Once an agent secures their real estate (salesperson's) license, they then can work as an agent under the supervision of a Broker and assist buyers and sellers with their home ownership dreams. But, LICENSURE does NOT mean that an agent or broker is a REALTOR. Agents must also pay dues to the National Association of Realtors (which also covers state and local Association dues) to be classified as and REALTOR. REALTORS are held to a strict Code Of Ethics. About 54% of the licensed agents in Washington State are REALTORS (46%)are not). REALTORS generally charge the same commission as non Realtors.
In addition to the agents business card, be sure you ask to see the agent's Realtor Card to assure yourselves that the agent you select to represent your interests must adhere to the National Association of Realtor's CODE OF ETHICS. It is JUST good business.
