For the last five years, the Environmental Protection Agency has been monitoring vulnerable watersheds across the U.S. for unsafe levels of the herbicide atrazine. In June 2008, EPA data showed a spike of atrazine in the drinking water of one Ohio town at 33.83 ppb, more than 10 times the 3.4 ppb reported publicly by local officials. McClure, Ohio, officials knew of the EPA data, but reported the lower level in a June 2009 Consumer Confidence Report.
