Acknowledges needs of Peer to Peer Support to Returning War Veterans
The Medical College of Wisconsin has awarded Dryhootchof America (a Veteran 501c3 non- profit) a Healthier WisconsinPartnership Program Grant. The program “
Dryhootch: Veteransusing peer support to make suretheir comrades get the care theyneed
” will study how veteransreceive care, if at all for their combat related PTSD. This datawill allow Dryhootch and theMedical College to determine howPeer Support can best be used toreach those veterans who for manyreasons do not seek care from theVeterans Administration.Through the grant, Dryhootchis finishing our Mobile Canteenthat will serve as our outreach intothe community. It will serve as our coffeehouse on wheels, a place toconduct surveys of veterans and to provide information to troops,veterans, and family on programsand benefits they may not beaware they are entitled to.The grant will not allow anyfunding for the building of theDryhootch Center, so fund raisingcontinues for this meeting places.Look for our Mobile Canteen,or invite us to your Chapter, Postor community event.

Dryhootch’sVeteranQuest
successful with vets from WW2,Korea, Vietnam, Iraq & Afghanistan attending!
The 2009 Highground healing journey with theunique VesteranQuest taken on June 2, 3, and 4thfor the WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Iraq Warveterans and their spouses or significant others isover.
The Post Traumatic Stress Disorder forthese veterans and subsequently how it affectsfamily members was not a "cure" and not totallyover for these warriors, but during the three daysand two nights spent encountering and identifyinglessons of how to cope offered healing andunderstanding to all of the participants. Couragethat helped them in combat now helped themmeet the challenge of PTSD.Through the experienced direction of Dr. MurrayBernstein, the groups were led through NativeAmerican techniques that addressed emotionsand behaviors.

ee & message from ChurchServices, to Chapters & Post meetings, events with Guitars for Vets, with a group of artists inChicago, and to PTSD groups with our newestbrothers & sisters from their wars in Iraq & Afghanistan. This year we have built a smallbank account, no debt, & a growing community of support. We took over 30 vet’sto the Highgrounds for 3 days of healing andachieved a small grant from the MedicalCollege of WI. Now our goal is to open ourdoors to begin the healing in our community,first on a part time basis, then full time. Weneed your support to provide a place for veterans who survived the war, but struggle with the peace.
