Entrepreneurs Society – Team Roles
Everyone in our society gets a formal position of responsibility, even if wehave 2000 members! So see below if anything interests you for next year...All positions last for the whole academic year and there may be some work todo over the summer. Full training will be given and there will be a full, brief welcome meeting after exams.Our organisational structure consists of a board of directors, core serviceheads and department team members. The board positions on offer include:Vice President and Marketing Director and these positions will be required toattend weekly board meetings. We wish to run a highly decentralisedstructure and all of the core service heads will be given full autonomy intohow they run their service including if they wish to recruit further teammembers. Vice President
The key responsibility of the Vice President will be to hold regular (roughly bi-weekly) meetings with each of our core service heads to discussprogress/problems/resources for their activities. You will be the first point of callif any major problems occur and will have to use your initiative to quickly comeup with solutions. You will have to condense this feedback into a report for the weekly boardmeeting to keep the rest of the board up to date with the progress of our coreservices.
Biz Launch Head
Biz Launch will be our flagship service next year, which will take studentsthrough all the stages of setting up a business: inspiration, ideas generation,formulating a business plan and sourcing funding. We plan to build acommunity of potential entrepreneurs who help each other develop their ownskill base and to get businesses set up, which we plan to achieve by runningnumerous interactive workshops/follow up meetings per week. Your role will be to ensure resources are available for this service, i.e. rooms,workshop trainers, and sales opportunities (we are thinking of doing astudent market for instance). You must also w
ork with marketing to promotethis service and arrange for additional funding from working with externalrelations.
Ventures Head
This highly important role will be to organise our micro fund service where weoffer our members the chance to pitch for £500 worth of funding for a newbusiness idea every month! Your role will be to organise the Judging Panel inwhich you will Chair and work with the marketing team to promote the service. Your other key roles will be to promote the society to real businesses here inManchester to get them to register their business in our society (for free of course). This will include working with students participating in the StudentAction programme and the Manchester Leadership Programme to create socialenterprises as their volunteer projects instead of cleaning parks for example.
The role will involve the following tasks:
- Constant interaction with entrepreneurs- Vetting of Funding Applications- Negotiate with the CEO of the National Consortium of Entrepreneurs to hold a VenturesAcademy here in Manchester.- Work with Marketing to promote the micro fund and the society to businesses.- Work with External Relations to source funding for the micro fund.
Required skills:
- An entrepreneurial flair- Understanding of Investment Cycles- Strong Analytical Skills- Knowledge of entrepreneurship and investment is a strongly preferred
Speaker Series Head
Last year Manchester Entrepreneurs attracted speakers of the highest qualityincluding BBC Online Dragon: Julie Meyer, BBC Apprentice Finalist: Claire Youngand founder of I-teddy: Imran Hakin. Your role will be to organise these speakerevents and attract even higher calibre speakers for next year. This is a fantasticopportunity to make an impression on some really highly powerful people! Youmust work with marketing to promote service to get as many people to the eventas possible.
Skills Head
Your main role will be to promote Biz Launch to students studying or who areskilled in graphic design, web-design, film production, photography, softwareengineering, or any other relevant skill so that they can start their own businessusing the skill the possess. This would require giving lecture and societypresentations and working closely with academic department’s career servicesat both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.
News Head
You will be responsible for producing our brand new mini newspaper! The aim of this is to showcase opportunities in the world and locally which entrepreneurscould take advantage of: developing markets/ideas/courses of interest forexample. The newspaper would have a large comment section of how best we asentrepreneurs could make the most of these opportunities and there will be adiscussing platform on our website. Success stories and lessons/mistakes learntby the top entrepreneurs will be included. As well as this the newspaper willshowcase what our member businesses are up to!A bit of cheating can be done by finding and including published articles butmost of the newspaper should be written by you. A passion for entrepreneurismis required and a good way with words.
Marketing Team
Responsibilities of the Marketing Team:
- Market our events and maximise attendance.- Design and manage our fresher’s week program.- Market Manchester Entrepreneurs throughout the year to prospectivemembers.- Manage our image to internal and external clients.- Design all of our branding.- Manage our website and social media groups.- Maximise exposure to external community.
The Marketing team will consist of a team of 5-
- A Director of Marketing.- One team member skilled in graphic design.- One team member skilled in web-design.- 2 more team members. The marketing team will work together coming up with new ideas and all of the team members will have an input into poster and website design howeverwe have do require that the team possesses a member with web-design skillsand a member with graphic design skills.
