Arterberry MareshMaresch VineyardPinot noir 06 $75
Arterberry Maresh Pinot noir 06 is one of Oregon's finest wines. Mouthwatering aromas of fresh red fruit mingling with darker berryelements, heady cinnamon, and mineral accents. The pure flavors have so many layers, showingpurple berries, fresh and dried cherries, blackcurrants even a touch of wild strawberry. Ripefruit is exceptionally balanced by the acidity, which Jim maintained by picking the grapes at just the right time. The 06 Maresh has an amazing, silky texture withultra-fine tannins on the long finish, echoing purefruit, white pepper, dried herbs and a hint of truffle. While it's drinking well now, the 06 Mareshwill hit its stride in 3-4 years and drink well for over a decade.Jim barrel ages his wines for up to two years, allowing the wines to have a seamless texture. No new oak was used in making the 2006Maresh Vineyard Pinot noir because, as Jimsays, when you have such amazing fruit, youdon't need to put make up on it.

Jim ArterberryMaresh
New Generation Steward of Landmark Oregon Winery
The year 1959 is not one oftenassociated with the Oregon wineindustry, but it's the year that Jim andLoie Maresh purchased their 27 acrehilltop orchard smack in the center of Dundee's Red Hills -- now called the"Cote d'Or" of Oregon Pinot noir.Gradually expanding to 124 acres of possibly the most prime vineyard realestate in Oregon, Maresh Vineyard isthe fifth oldest in Oregon, withplantings from 1970 on.Jim and Loie's daughter, MarthaMaresh, married Fred Arterberry in theearly 1980's. Fred made wine for the family (at the Eyrie Vineyards' winery) firstunder the “Red Hills Vineyard” label, then under the"Arterberry Cellars" label. Fred's 1985 ArterberryReserve Pinot noir received 95 points from WineSpectator, an unheard of score for the time. (Onlyeleven Oregon wines in total have received a 95from Wine Spectator). At right above is a rare photoof Jim and Martha with baby Jim (now ArterberryMaresh’s third generation winemaker). In 1990, with Fred's passing, the Arterberry Cellarslabel disappeared. Rex Hill, Penner-Ash, ArcherySummit, Daedalus, Sineann, and Scott Paulwineries purchased the fruit, with some wines madeunder the Red Barn label for sale at the Mareshfamily tasting room.
The Third Generation
Jim Arterberry-Maresh, Martha and Fred's son (pictured above), grew up with thevines, hearing about his father's wines and learning the vineyard business. Lastyear, he revived the Arterberry label, incorporating his last name "ArterberryMaresh". Jim's first releases show that Fred's skills have been passed down. Thethird generation of Maresh Vineyard and Arterberry Maresh Cellars is off andrunning!
