Hail To The Chief (a.k.a. President’s Update)

The snow is flying – a good sign that another busy season is in full swing.I hope you are all in game shape and ready to referee!I would like to thank everybody for their patience and cooperation with thedelay in writing the exam. The electronic filing has gone extremely well,and it looks like everybody will write it on time.The Rookie Clinics added another twenty or so members to our association, and this year’s crop seems very keen. Thanks to John andMichael Weiland for their expert tutelage and to Ian Pollard for supervisingthe games – the entire rookie process went extremely well this season. Abig welcome to our newest members!With the peak season upon us, I urge everybody to remember: the “face”of the CBOA is not I. It is not Dick – or the CBOA Executive. The face of our association is YOU. Every time you work, the people in the gym thatday see YOU as the CBOA. So please conduct yourself in a professionalmanner at all times…and have fun!For now, best wishes to you and your loved ones this Holiday season.May you find peace and joy, and all the best in 2010.

Almost 100 people signed up for the sporty new garments,which will come in very handy as a comfortable top to “throw on” after those tough double-headers. We are going to look SO sharp!The first order for shirts has been sent in and should be delivered in aboutthree weeks. They can be picked up through a direct request to me or atour January 21

meeting at St. Mary’s. Just another great reason toattend the January meeting! I have also ordered samples of a grey shirtand black shorts that might be useful during the summer.

Remember that

if you experience a severe incident

in one of your games, contact Dick Vanderstam after the game and let him know. Makesome notes on the incident if needed when you get home, and then e-mailme the next day – this gives you a chance to collect your thoughts.Remember CBOA is here, above all, to support you in your endeavours.It is my pleasure as chairman of the CBOA Membership Committee toreport that very few complaints have come my way so far this season. It isa good sign that officials are “reffing in the spirit of the game". Keep it up!

Odds-and-Ends With The Handyman (a.k.a. Member–at –Large Update)

CBOA’s first social event will be a party at Don Herman’s house at the end of the Calgary HighSchool Basketball Classic Tournament Finals. The Girls and Boys “A” Finals are at CrescentHeights High School on Saturday, December 12

at 4:30 pm. The gathering at Don’s will beginafter the Boys final. Location information will be sent out as soon as possible. Come out for agreat night of basketball and fun compliments of the CBOA Executive!Remember that the mid-season pay night is at St. Mary’s High School on Thursday, January21
