 This guide sets out the codes that shers need to use whenthey catch non-sh and protected species during shing. Animals to report using the Non-sh / Protected Species CatchReturn are:
 
Seabirds
(e.g. albatrosses, petrels, penguins)
 
Marine mammals
(e.g. seals, dolphins, whales)
 
Marine reptiles
(e.g. turtles, sea snakes)
 
Corals, sponges or bryozoans
(e.g. black coral)
 
Protected sh species
(e.g. spotted black grouper, greatwhite shark).
Each individual must be reported, whether it is deador alive.
I you know what species you have caught, use one o the“Species Codes” listed in the NF/PSCR notes (or example,FUR or a ur seal).
I you don’t know what species it is, use one o the “GroupCodes” listed in this guide (or example, SEA or a seal).
Not every species is shown in this guide, but the imagesshown here will help you work out which group the animalbelongs to.
