Although I agree with you that as much as possible we should upload only files we think are not yet in scribd which is what i try to do, sometimes we are not aware that this is so and it would also take a little search to first check that the file we are uploading is already posted by someone else

An additional reason from that cited by Simon Absconditus is that not all are subscribers are also the same as others so in the spirit of sharing, i think others are also deliberately re-posting files for those of his/her subscribers that are not our subscribers.
