button, arm and body. Add the other arm and button. Continue going back and forth through the arms, bodyand buttons several time and then knot the thread and bury it in the body.
FACE:
Embroider the nose and mouth with barn red floss or linen thread.
EYES:
Stitch 1/4” black buttons at eye placement. Using black quilting thread and longer sewing needle, tie a knotat the end of doubled length of thread, about 18.” Enter from the back of the head, popping the thread into thehead, coming out at eye placement. String button onto thread and then when you have the button placed enter the button and then enter head and come out on the other button position. Add button and stitch back and forthunder the head and thru the buttons, several times. Make a knot close to the button and exit the back of thehead, popping the knot into the head.With one strand of black embroidery floss, embroider the eye brows and lashes.
HAIR:
Cut 4” strands of barn red yarn. With red quilting thread tie a knot at the end of doubled length of thread.Enter from the back of the head, popping the thread into the head, coming out at first hair placement on oneside. Take two 4” strands of yarn and fold it in half. Place it next to thread and stitch over the middle 3 or 4times. Insert needle at this point and exit ¼” away and repeat around the head to the other side.
SKIRT:
Cut the skirt 4 ½” by 22” long. With right sides together, sew the side seam. Turn right side out. Fold thetop to the inside ¼” and sew a gathering seam starting in the middle front and continue around. Gather the skirtaround the doll’s waist and tie a bow.
HAT:
Cut the hat out on doubled striped fabric. With right sides together, sew the sides. Turn the hat right sideout Stitch a rusty bell to the point. Cut a strip of white fur, 1” wide by 10 ½” long. Stitch it on the outside of the bottom of the hat. Tack the hat to the doll’s head on the sides. Tack the point of the hat to the band.
SCARF:
Cut the scarf from fabric, 17” long by 1 ¼” wide. Tie it around the doll’s neck.
TREE:
Cut fabric strips, 1” wide x 6” long, and tie them around the cinnamon stick. Glue a painted wood heartto the top of the cinnamon stick.
FINISHING:
Blush the doll’s cheeks.
SEWING TIPS:
Use a button foot to sew on traced lines as you will be able to see the line as you sew.
TEA-DYING:
If you want to dye your doll or clothes, make a strong tea or coffee or combination of both, solution. Youcan also add a small amount of vanilla for fragrance.You can also stain your doll or clothes with a walnut ink granules solution if you would like a very primitivelook. Let it air dry.
