2.0 - LEVEL 1 – PRE-OPERATIONS (PRE-OP)
The following are steps that take only a moment andA be performed on every computerbefore it is checked into tech bench or at the begining of an on-site service callReplicate client’s issue(s)Open the computer case:Check for dustCheck for distended capacitorsCheck for unseated cards and unconnected cablesCheck fans for proper operationPerform visual software inspection for viruses and spywareCheck for rogue processes and startup applicationsCheck For DustThe following are problems that can and will be caused by dust:Static Electricity• HeatFan malfunctionSystem board shortsTypically, you can use some type of pressured air tank (like the one used in Mobile Install) toeffectively clean out computers. Because of the chemical residue that may accumulate on thesystem board, canned air is not recommended for performing this. Get authorization from theclient for a System Cleaning before performing this task.Distended CapacitorsA Distended Capacitor is an immediate service disqualifier. When a distended capacitor isfound, you can deem the computer to have a defective system board. Look for either a bulge onthe top side of the capacitor or an acid-like mark on the top or the bottom of the capacitor.

I was working in Microsoft Publisher and suddenly a sidebar appeared on the left side with what appeared to be email messages to me I had never seen. I tried to bring up one and re'd a message that I had to have Microsoft Outlook as my home page, which I don't want to do. I opened Outlook and looked for the many messages listed on Publisher, but they wern't there. How do I find these messages now?
