Plan 2 - Task-Based lesson (Final Draft) - M. Perez

from meyperez

This is the final version of my Task-Based Lesson Plan.

10/23/2008

meyperez scribbled: Now that you mention it, I wonder why I left activity 8 out of the plan. I will see if I can manage to adapt it to the framework. I guess it can work as a brainstorming exercise in preparation to the first drafting of the review. I agree with you on the problem with thereport stage. I think it would take too much time for the teacher to meka notes, especially in the kind of feedback that would make the students write the best text thay can to make it public. I hope I can improve on my "planning powers" so as to be able not only to implement this particular plan, but this framework in a way that my students see the difference and benefits of changing the shape of our lessons from time to time.

Plan 2 - Task-Based lesson (Draft2) - M. Perez

from meyperez

Task-based lesson plan in the making. More changes coming. Gladys, this is the same one I sent you via email. I was only trying to upload something. I guess it worked. We'll see tomorrow!

meyperez scribbled: S8 arrived after I finished gathering the information and I think her participation and involvement was nonexistent. There was a greeting, but only a "hello" and not much else, except for the page of the book they were working on. The students seating to the teacher's right were all girls and more talkative and willing to participate. The boys to the teacher's left were shy and, even though they volunteered answers and participated, it was almost always in a low voice and in a way trying to just make an appearane in the lesson. About the interactions, there were of all kinds, planned and spontaneous. The teacher as well as the students (some of them) reacted to each other on many occasions, apart form the activities that required them to speak up. This was actually a very dynamic group. More than I expected from such a varied group of teens.

Observation 3 (Patterns of Interaction) - M. Perez

from meyperez

Observation based on the patterns of interction within a classroom among students and between students and teacher.

10/22/2008
meyperez
meyperez scribbled: Don't worry, my heart is still intact. I'm not sure if the students were demotivated. I think that it was simply how thay worked. Maybe the kind of school and the expectations as regards the role of the teacher shaped this lesson and the way they interacted. The students seemed to participate as much as their sleepy selves allowed them.

Observation 2 (Phases and Transitions) - M. Perez

from meyperez

Observation dealing with phases of a lesson, transitions and signaling of changes.

10/22/2008
meyperez
meyperez scribbled: I agree that breakdowns are a source of learning. However, in the case of this lesson the breakdowns were not caused by a discussion of terms or disagreement. The teacher simply gave them a dictionary to check the terms they did not understand. There was no work on the items so as to benefit the entire group. Also, the students spoke almost always in Spanish to the teacher and among themselves. I think it is a shame that the teacher did not take advantage of the doubts to at least work on learning strategies.

Observation 1 (Lesson Breakdowns) - M. Perez

from meyperez

First of a set of observations on Seconday school level. In thid observation I deal with the interruptions to the smooth flow of a lesson.
