Ms. Tello is fully certified in general sciences, high school biology, and bilingual science education. As a bilingual science instructor, she employs a curriculum that includes Greek and Latin to help students develop an understanding of both science and the English language. She also has worked closely with student teachers from local universities, offering her classroom as a model for those who are interested in bilingual science education.
Ms. Tello completed her undergraduate education at InterAmerican University, where she earned Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Pre-Medical Studies. She holds Master’s degrees in School Building Leadership and Science from Mercy College.
She began her teaching career as a Biology Teacher and Lab Technician at Saint Joseph of the Palisades High School in West New York, New Jersey. There, Ms. Tello taught ninth- and tenth-grade science courses, and helped to create science and photography clubs.
Most recently, Ms. Tello served as a Bilingual Living Environment, Earth Science, and Forensics Teacher at the High School of Graphic Communication Arts in New York City. During her 12 years at the school, she became an integral part of the faculty, instituting a number of innovative programs. Another program, a partnership with the American Museum of Natural History, helped students to prepare for the New York State Regents exam.
Outside the classroom, Mona Lisa Tello is committed to serving the community. She participates in canine therapy programs with her Papillon. Additionally, she is an active member of her church, singing with the choir and ministering to the elderly and ill through prayer.
