Anger Management for Ourselves and Our Children:
Presenter: Ann-Marie Sturniolo, M.S.,P.D. Marriage and Family Therapist, Family & Children’s AssociationThis video-based workshop will offer effective and practical skills. Parents will learn to manage and respondappropriately to their child’s anger.
Self-Esteem:
Presenter: Scott Maidat, C.S.W., Program Director, Southeast Nassau Guidance CenterThis workshop will address issues related to building and enhancing children’s self-esteem and how parentingstyles impact it.
Bullying and Relational Aggression:
Presenter: Dr. Laura Silver McGuireThis workshop focuses upon bullying and relational aggression. Workshop topics include defining bullyingand relational aggression, discussion of a psychological theory behind bullying and relational aggression andreview of a successful bullying prevention program. Proactive and reactive practical interventions to apply tobullies, victims and bystanders will be discussed.
Student Lending:
Presenter: Brian Herrington, Assistant Director of Intergovernmental Affairs,Office of the Attorney General Andrew M. CuomoA nationwide investigation of the student loan industry for questionable and deceptive practices was launchedlast year. The inquiry concerns incentives that certain student loan companies may be offering or providing tosecure placement on schools' "preferred lender" lists, as well as other lender activity which might create con-flicts of interest and compromise the interests of individual student borrowers. The Office is committed toproviding guidance to students and their families so they have the necessary information to make smart deci-sions about their student loans. Our presentation informs parents about the "Student Bill of Rights" so stu-dents know what rights they have when taking out a loan. It also educates families about the recently passedlaw making New York the first state in the nation to offer a comprehensive solution to the widespread abusein the student loan industry, called the Student Lending Accountability, Transparency, and Enforcement(SLATE) Act.
