Mitchelle Dominia June 25,2009III-ResearchersActivity # 1I. Objectives:To find examples of Mechanical and Electromagnetic waves. To differentiate Mechanical and Electromagnetic waves.II. Reference:InternetIII. Application:A.Mechanical Waves1. Ocean Waves
When the wind blows across the water, it changes the water'ssurface, first into ripples and then into waves. Once the surface becomesuneven, the wind has an ever increasing grip on it. Storms can make enormouswaves, particularly if the wind, blows in the same direction for any length of time. In this chapter, you can learn what waves are and how they behave.Learn to understand the principles behind all surface waves.
 2. Seismic Waves arewavesthat travel through theEarthor other elastic body, for  example as the result of anearthquake, explosion, or some other process that imparts forces to the body. Seismic waves are also continually excited on Earth by theincessant pounding of ocean waves(referred to as themicroseism) and thewind. Seismic waves are studied byseismologists, and measured by aseismograph, which records the output of aseismometer , or geophone. For seismic studies of oil reservoirs, hydrophonesmay give additional information.

3. Sound Waves-
Sound is a waveform that travels through matter. Although it iscommonly associated in air, sound will readily travel through many materials such aswater and steel. Some insulating materials absorb much of the sound waves, preventing the waves from penetrating the material.
B. Electromagnetic Waves1. Radio Waves- areelectromagnetic wavesoccurring on theradio frequencyportion of theelectromagnetic spectrum.2. X-Rays -is a form of electromagnetic radiation. X-rays have awavelengthin the range of 10 to 0.01nanometers,corresponding tofrequenciesin the range 30  petahertzto 30exahertz(3 × 10
16
Hz to 3 × 10
19
Hz) and energies in the range 120eV to 120keV. They are shorter in wavelength thanUVrays. In many languages, X- radiation is called
Röntgen radiation
after Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who is
of 00
