Pablo Fonseca has served the private and public sectors in an assortment of capacities since earning his degree in Criminal Justice from New York’s St. Johns University in 1987. He gained valuable management experience acting as Chief Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Newark for nearly a decade. In 1999, he began working as a Legislative Aide for then-Councilman Cory A. Booker, an unconventional administrator who went on hunger strikes and took up temporary residence in high drug traffic areas to draw attention to various social problems. Mr. Fonseca’s professional career would be connected to Mr. Booker’s for the next nine years.
In 2002, Pablo Fonseca took a Marketing Director position at a legal firm at which Mr. Booker was a partner. When Mr. Booker mounted a successful bid for Newark City Mayor in 2004, Pablo Fonseca joined his team as Campaign Manager. In this role, he worked closely with the Campaign Director to ensure effective communication between various offices and staff members. He also oversaw the operations of over 1,500 campaign volunteers and paid employees.
When Cory Booker was ultimately elected, he brought Pablo Fonseca into the Mayor’s Office as his Chief of Staff. From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Fonseca supervised and coordinated the efforts of 50 Mayor’s Office employees. He also directly managed several important government initiatives, such as the Newark Green Spaces project, a $50 million parks improvement program that incorporated both public and private interests.
In 2008, Pablo Fonseca accepted his current positions as Managing Partner at the firms of Fonseca Consulting Group, LLC, and Newark Strategy Group, LLC. These organizations are designed to connect professionals with a diverse team of experts in areas such as business and governmental strategies, marketing and public relations, legislative affairs, and campaign management. In his spare time, Mr. Fonseca volunteers for the Boys & Girls Club of Newark and Newark Now. He is also an avid art collector.
