Comment on A New Security Concept
Posted on September 1, 2008

'Sustainable security' incorporates and builds upon many of the elements of concepts such as 'human security', 'common security' and 'just security'. It is a framework for for developing sustainable policies that emphasise preventative (rather than reactive) strategies and focuses on resolving the underlying long-term drivers of insecurity (rather than the short-term 'symptoms'). It is focused on changing the way we think about security and bringing about actual changes in policy. For more information, see "Beyond Terror: The Truth About the Real Threats to Our World" (Random House, 2007).
