Comment on Monster, Terroist, Fag: The War on Terroism and the Production of Docile Patriots

Good especially on the idea that terrorists are created outside of their socioecopolitical reality, especially as created by the U.S.

Comment on Virtuous Cuts: Female Genital Circumcision in an African Ontology
Posted on June 19, 2007

Interesting that although women in the community who oppose all cutting are mentioned, she doesn't interview them. I think it's important that there are differences of opinion among the women she interviews, but all of the interviews she publishes support some kind of cutting. I do agree with a statement in her epilogue that if the whole community agrees with something, its prohibition makes no sense. However, the whole community doesn't agree, and some folks from the community are trying to get others to not circumcise their children. How come the aunts, mothers, grandmothers, and sisters have the right to tell their daughters how to have their daughters cut, and yet not the right to tell their daughters not to cut? Although she captures different opinions, she doesn't come close to capturing anything close to even a token of the variety of opinions. She makes it sound as if there is a community will toward cutting girls, which definitely exists, but not only.

Comment on Introduction: To Be Real: Telling The Truth and the Changing Face of Feminism
Posted on June 18, 2007

I think it is important to recognize and respect the inherent multiplicity and hypocrisies of ourselves and others. None of us is going to be perfectly aligned with anything. At the same time, I think it's important to recognize social problems. Although a porn star (porn in the sense that it is sexual material based on domination, as opposed to sexuality based on mutuality) could consider herself a feminist and no one should contradict her self-identification, it wouldn't mean that her actions as a porn star would be good for women. I do think she's right though that we have to accept the complexity and therefore contradictions that will occur within any person.

Comment on Disability, Sex Radicalism, And Political Agency

Once again, thanks for posting! I especially like the distinction between reproductive rights and the right to sexual pleasure on one\'s own terms. I wasn\'t aware that forced sterilization was still going on, although I knew it used to happen all the time.

Comment on Cripping the Queer Nation

This is really amazing! Thank you for posting it and recommending it! As someone with able-bodied privilege, white privilege, and when I\'m dating men, heteronormative privilege, I am in need of constant education and reminders about what to do and how to think about things. Every time I listen to you or read something you recommend, I get a little closer to being the person and activist that I want to be. Thank you for having the patience and good will to share your ideas with me and with others and explaining things that should be common sense if we weren\'t deliberately desensitized.
