| About me: | I am a retired Stuctural Engineer living in India. Writing used to be a hobby; now it is a passion. I do not write for gain or fame, but because it makes me complete. People fascinate me and I have friends - offline and online - all over the world. I try to be tolerant, but I have a high IQ and I do not suffer fools gladly. The first thing I look for in a new friend is a sense of humor : next comes honesty and respect for other points of view. My other loves are romantic movies, easy listening music, reading - and my wife of 32 years. | |

Burt Gummer...if you are a typical example of the ignorant bigots that populate America, I am indeed thankful to be living in India.

El Hambra

I think it's spelt Al-hambra, but that is just a matter of semantics. I was fortunate enough to visit there; and it is truly awe-inspiring.

Magic Man...your scorn for "intellectuals" says it all. Any further response would be superfluous.

Extremely well put, hkadman, and I couldn't agree with you more...a poet, moreover, whose luminosity radiates through the page.

Narcotics: A Grim Look
Posted on June 10, 2007 |
There are few things more tragic than having a promising young life truncated prematurely due to drugs. What often starts out as an 'experiment' - or something that needs to be done to blend with the 'in' crowd - turns into an uncontrollable obsession. And dying of drug overdose is one of the most degrading ends one can imagine. There is certainly nothing glamorous about it.

Eye In The Sky: who's Watchin' You???
Posted on June 9, 2007 |
Anonymous...whatever yr opinion or unwarranted grouse against Candida, I will just say this. At least she has the courage and integrity to put her name and her reputation behind her words. She does not hide beyond some cowardly pseudonym. If you want to get up on yr soap box, don't cower behind a mask...let the people know who you are.
Since you keep insisting on an intelligent rebuttal; your argument seems to be that if the government is snooping into the private lives of citizens anyway, what's wrong with Google does it ?(that's real "intelligent"). In other words, two wrongs make a right. You ignore a few trickles seeping through the dam; and pretty soon, you have a flood you can't control.

Eye In The Sky: who's Watchin' You???
Posted on June 8, 2007 |
I have long felt that technology is getting out of control. People are testing its limits, not out of any inclination towards the public good, but merely because they can. In a few years, 60 year old women will routinely have babies, using their long frozen eggs. With greater bandwidth and increasingly sophisticated software, the internet has become open season for stalkers, perverts and pedophiles. The Google Street View is solely about profit: all the rest are platitudes. If we invent everything in this lifetime, what will be left for future generations?
