Some of Trotsky's writings on revolutionary morality, published in "The New International" (SWP) in 1938. This is a very good work to clear up moral questions (like "means and ends") with a dialectical materialist analysis.

Good description of the modern democratic socialist movement with historical and theoretical analysis. Written in 1966 for New Politics (International Socialists) and later re-printed in Draper's "Socialism From Below."

Comment on Hal Draper, "The Two Souls of Socialism"
Posted on June 18, 2007
Rhonda- As a long-time reader, I will say it has its ups and downs. Without starting a lengthy debate about adbusters, let me just qualify that though it may be brilliant at times, it often suffers from curious editorial decisions (like publishing a dreadful Matt Taibbi article in last issue) and sometimes exclusive focus on "lifestyle" and "anti-civilizationist" anarchist discourses, which I think are completely unproductive, ahistorical, and anti-struggle. Message me if you need further clarification or want to discuss this stuff outside of the Draper article.

Yes, it is. And just to clarify my position on the article, I don't fully support Draper's characterization of anarchism. However, there are grains of truth in that characterization that can be enlightening as to the motivations of many anarchist ideological formations. I doubt that anarchists are as sinister as Draper implies, and would rebut that many simply suffer from poor analysis and inability of tracing the logical conclusions of many hastily-formed arguments (esp. "post left," "post politics," and others). However, I think Draper's condemnation would only be strengthened had he witnessed the rise in "primitivism" and "green anarchy" through the 80s and 90s, which continues vaguely in such popular anarchist chic rags like Adbusters.
