3. Free, creative thought is necessary for a free society to grow. Try to discourage it (say, perhaps for reasons of copyright or "security"), and you will stifle growth and innovation. See the U.S. copyright system. 7. In order to advance thought, philosophy, culture, it is necessary to stand out from the crowd, which will identify a person as "eccentric". Any innovation we have was, at some point, considered eccentric. See Einstein, Van Gogh, Galileo....the list is long.
