3. Free, creative thought is necessary for a free society to grow. Try to discourage it (say, perhaps for reasons of copyright or "security"), and you will stifle growth and innovation. See the U.S. copyright system. 7. In order to advance thought, philosophy, culture, it is necessary to stand out from the crowd, which will identify a person as "eccentric". Any innovation we have was, at some point, considered eccentric. See Einstein, Van Gogh, Galileo....the list is long.

For every authority on a subject, there's someone just as authoritative who takes a completely contrary position. Therefore, take care who you accept as the "final word" on a subject...there's always another word to be added.
