Comment on Effective Parenting: Establishing Boundaries
Posted on March 14, 2008

Pate, when you first see your grandaughter hitting someone, quickly remove her from the situation and take her to a quiet place. Be consistent with this, and try and communicate to her that hitting is not a good thing. At 16 months, toddlers have very few coping methods for anger and frustration. Try and observe her to see if you can notice any signs of this just prior to her hitting. If you do, you can then learn to move quickly before she hits.

It is my clumsy attempt to portray the longing, passion, trust and utter love. Sometimes when re-reading these, I see the yearning soul reaching for something that isn't really there.

Comment on Grave's Disease: A Rare Autoimmune Disorder
Posted on June 14, 2007

Sheryl, You ARE NOT whining, nor are your troubles minor to me or anyone else. These damned autoimmune disorders are just so frustrating. We get to count our "good days" in hours sometimes, rarely weeks. and you know what? I still don't have any formula for dealing with them to share, except to tell you how after 20+ years I cope. Which is I bless every moment I have pain or symptom free, drinking it in like a parched desert traveller Sheryl. It's not fair, it's not easy, but it's all we have. And you, a fighter just like me, tell yourself I'll be DAMNED if I let this kick me to the curb. writing to onre another is one of the ways us autoimmunees cope best. We share the ups and downs with one another. i'm sorry you are having such a rocky course. Eventually you'll begin to sense a sort of rhythm to it and it will become more business as usual. But you are still new to this, so it is vital you keep on talking through it. Watch the heat of summer, it really impacts these diseases. I'm on Lifeline Energy through my utility company. It really helps keep the even 70 degrees I need to keep stable. ask your local utility if they have this. Drink lots of...

Comment on Eye In The Sky: who's Watchin' You???
Posted on June 8, 2007

Well, you certainly have a way of making some rather erroneous ass-umptions about someone you don't know. Technophobe? Hardly. No reasoning skills? I doubt that. Your remarks seem rather personal Anonymous. By the way, educated people speak this way. The thrust of this article is that we are complaining about governmental snooping into every aspect of our lives. Yet for quite some time, information merchants offer anyone with cash the same thing. Google is irresponsible, in my opinion. The Street View augments an already invasive satellite view of anyones cityscape and home address. You tell me what a victim of crime, or someone hiding from an irate or unstable ex-spouse should feel? The public street argument is specious in regards to the fact Google well understands that there might be legal ramifications to offering this service should someone get hurt. I think Tony Long of Wired News says it best: "Let's call a spade a spade here, lay all our cards on the table and use all the clichés necessary to make one thing perfectly clear: Google is invading your privacy for the same reason (and only reason) it does anything. It smells a chance to make money and it's goi...

Comment on America: A Grim Future
Posted on June 7, 2007

Exactly Phillip. And providence could use some help from those of us here, who could do something useful, rather than natter on about things they've been force fed. As the police have reiterated to me steadily... I /we must take part in protecting and defending my home. Thank you for your detailed and very fair comments here. and for recognizing this is a global danger, is not political, and requires all of us to observant and aware.

Thank you. So do I. If ever in our history we need to possess all these attributes and more.. it is now. Let's hope we re-empower ourselves and start acting as if we gave a damn.
