Interests: My interests are in theatre and performance theory, musicological and performative narratology, music and theatre semiology/semiotics, psychoanalysis, theories on the acousmatic medium, (psycho-)acoustics, ecological and cultural theories of aurality, philosophy and phenomenology of the auditory imagination, psychology of the sound image, phenomenology of voice, sound/music dramaturgy, soundscape analysis, the historical concept of synaesthesia, the discursive effects of audio technology.
Lately I've been writing: On the performativity of sound in the theatre, modes of listening attention, auditory and narrative imagination in contemporary music theatre.
   
About me: Pieter Verstraete is currently working as a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis and the Theatre Department of the University of Amsterdam. His research covers an interdisciplinary approach towards sound, listening and aurality in theatre, embracing audio and music theatre, installation art and other genres of sonic art in performative contexts.
