Chapter 1

In the beginning Godcreated the heaven andthe earth.

And the earthwas without form, andvoid; and darkness

was

upon the face of thedeep. And the Spirit of God moved upon theface of the waters.

And God said, Letthere be light: and therewas light.

And God sawthe light, that

it was

good: and God dividedthe light from thedarkness.

And Godcalled the light Day, andthe darkness he calledNight. And the evening

and the morning werethe first day.

And God said, Letthere be a firmament

inthe midst of the waters,and let it divide thewaters from the waters.

And God made thefirmament, and divided

And the evening...: Heb. Andthe evening was, and themorning was

firmament: Heb. expansion

the waters which

were

under the firmamentfrom the waters which

were

above thefirmament: and it wasso.

And God called thefirmament Heaven. Andthe evening and themorning were thesecond day.

And God said, Let thewaters under the heavenbe gathered togetherunto one place, and letthe dry

land

appear: andit was so.

And Godcalled the dry

land

Earth;and the gatheringtogether of the waterscalled he Seas: and Godsaw that

it was

good.

And God said, Let theearth bring forth grass

,the herb yielding seed,

and

the fruit treeyielding fruit after hiskind, whose seed

initself, upon the earth:and it was so.

And theearth brought forthgrass,

and

herb yieldingseed after his kind, andthe tree yielding fruit,whose seed

was

in itself,after his kind: and Godsaw that

it was

good.

And the evening andthe morning were thethird day.

And God said, Letthere be lights in thefirmament of the heavento divide the day

fromthe night; and let thembe for signs, and forseasons, and for days,and years:

And letthem be for lights in thefirmament of the heavento give light upon theearth: and it was so.

And God made twogreat lights; the greaterlight to rule the day

,and the lesser light torule the night:

he made

the stars also.

And Godset them in thefirmament of the heavento give light upon theearth,

And to rule overthe day and over thenight, and to divide thelight from the darkness:and God saw that

it was

good.

And the eveningand the morning werethe fourth day.

And God said, Let

the day...: Heb. between theday and between the night

to rule the day...: Heb. for therule of the day, etc.

the waters bring forthabundantly the movingcreature that hath life,and fowl

that

may flyabove the earth in theopen firmament of heaven.

And Godcreated great whales,and every livingcreature that moveth,which the watersbrought forthabundantly, after theirkind, and every wingedfowl after his kind: andGod saw that

it was

good.

And Godblessed them, saying,Be fruitful, and multiply,and fill the waters inthe seas, and let fowlmultiply in the earth.

And the evening andthe morning were thefifth day.

And God said, Letthe earth bring forththe living creature afterhis kind, cattle, andcreeping thing, andbeast of the earth afterhis kind: and it was so.
