February 18, 2009U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Reaching Out to Filipino WWII Veterans Regarding NewBenefit
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is reaching out to all Filipino WWII veteransregarding the new one-time lump-sum benefit payment signed into law on February 17, 2009. TheUnited States has great respect for the bravery and service of Philippine WWII veterans and for their  partnership with the U.S. military in defending freedom. This new legislation, the American Recoveryand Reinvestment Act of 2009, formally recognizes the service of Filipino WWII veterans as activemilitary service in the Armed Forces for purposes of this law.In accordance with the new law, for an individual to be eligible for payment, the U.S.Department of Veterans Affairs must receive the individual’s claim no later than February 16, 2010,which is one year from the date U.S. President Barack Obama signed the historic legislation.The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is working to quickly implement the new U.S. law.Filipino WWII veterans can inquire about and submit claims for the new lump-sum benefit at the U.S.Department of Veterans Affairs Manila Regional Office located at the U.S. Embassy in Manila. TheU.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Manila Regional Office will also have representatives available toaccept claims at the following locations throughout the Philippines on the dates listed below:

Good Morning! It's about time that the U.S. Government give the long overdue benefits to the WWII Veterans. This is really good news to surviving ones but definitely a sad news to families of those who have died before this bill was signed, like my father. He died of cancer in U.S. with just my mother at his side. My father requested for us to be there and see him but the good U.S. Embassy denied

My father is a ww11 veterans and also a u.s citizen.Unluckily he passed away last dec.2008 almost 1 month and 20 days Pres.Obama sign the equity bill anr were shock because only surviving veterans can avail for it is a long awaited benefits my father waiting for.My mother is still alive and hoping to receive also a benefits.Can my mother can avail this bill for it is only a weeks that this bill was signed? esteban campitan is a naturalized US citizen with certificate naturalization no. 20378896 issued on oct. 25, 1993 by the consular section of US embassy manila then on june 7, 2000 he was isseud US pasport no. 701735753. however due to financial reason he was unable to go to US. he has an application being world war veterans of world war 2 and under the american recovery reinvestment act of 2009 of which he filed a claim last feb 19, 2009 at US embassy manila. When can he receive this compensation as a US citizen of $15,000? and how? hoping that this matter would be given preparation attention because his aging born sept. 20,1924 and and repetitious illness such as heart attack, prostate cancer and memory gaps. thank you and best regards
